2008 AGM

This year's Annual General Meeting of AOUK was part of the celebrations of the First 50 years of AO

 

 

The meeting was held at the Royal York Hotel over the weekend of 15th-16th November and was well attended by members and their families

 

 

 

 

 

You will be able to read the minutes of the meeting here, in due course when they are published

 

The Long Bone, Hand, CMF, ORP and Vet Specialty Sections held meetings for their members

 

Guest speaker Prof Geoff Richards from the AO Research Institute Davos gave a lecture on the "Role of implant surfaces in fracture fixation: the effect of polishing"

The highlight of the weekend was the banquet, held at Castle Howard, the setting for Brideshead Revisited which provided the theme for the occasion

The evening commenced with a reception for the 120 members and their guests who attended

2008 AOUK Trauma Research Prize

This annual award was made at the AGM, with the three finalists presenting their papers

     

Alexia Karantana, SpR Y3 at the Queens Medical Centre Nottingham, reviewed the "Epidemiology and outcome of hip fracture in women up to 65 years"

 
     
 

Daren Forward, Consultant Trauma Surgeon at the Queens Medical Centre Nottingham, presented his paper entitled
"Can a locking plate outperform a cephalomedullary nail in subtrochanteric femur fractures?"
